Dhammakaya Dhutanga project, to relieve minds after the flood disaster and to make great merit for the land, was initiated by the Most Ven. Phrathepyanmahamuni (Luang Phaw Dhammajayo), the abbot of Wat Phra Dhammakaya, with 25 government and private associated organizations. The project is taking place between the 2nd and the 25th of January 2012. The project is for 1,127 of monks from all over the country to go on a pilgrimage, chant prayers and practice meditation for disaster relief in the 6 provinces affected by the flood; Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Suphanburi, Nakhon Pathom and Ayutthaya. They pray for peace and happiness for Thailand as well as pioneering the Great Master’s Paths, the Most Venerable Phramongkolthepmuni (Sod Candasaro)’s way by going on a 365 kilometer pilgrimage.

The monks started going on a pilgrimage from Wat Phra Dhammakaya in Pathum Thani province to the 6 provinces mentioned and stay in temples such as Wat Tripharasimakhet in Ayutthaya, Wat Phai Rong Wua in Suphanburi, and Wat Bang Phai in Nonthaburi. It has been more than two weeks and their pilgrimage has taken them more than 194 kilometres. There are people, students, communities, shops, company and government workers who welcome the monks by laying mats and spreading rose petals along the way.

Phra Sanitwong Wutthiwangso, Head of Public Relation Division, Dhammakaya Temple, said “When the monks reach each of the temples to rest, people and students always go to wash the monks’ feet, offer them food and drinks and take care of them, including joining the monks to chant prayers, meditate and listen to the teachings. It is such a meritous activity, it strengthens Buddhism and harmonizes communities. It is beneficial for families, temples and schools.”

Moreover, Phra Sanitwong also said “One important thing is when the monks walk past the places related to the Great Master whom domestic and international people respect, our project provides a ceremony by chanting prayers, meditation, lighting candles, floating lanterns and fireworks to pay homage to The Most Venerable Phramongkolthepmuni (Sod Candasaro), Luang Pu of Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen and the Lord Buddha.”

On Sunday 22 January, the Dhammakaya Dhutanga monks will go on a pilgrimage to Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen to worship the body of The Most Venerable Phramongkolthepmuni (Sod Candasaro), Luang Pu of Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen,  and practice meditation to pay homage to Him.

Therefore we would like to invite you to join a welcome ritual to the monks by coming to spread rose petals, just like in the Lord Buddha’s era when people of Phisari city went to spread colorful flowers to welcome the Lord Buddha and 500 monks to express their respect in the Triple Gems according to the Dhamma “Kharava 6.”
