Episode I

Luang Pu dedicated his life two times and then he attained Dhammakaya and studied Dhammakaya Vijja until he became expert.  After that he intent strongly to spread Buddhism and Dhammakaya Vijja and he did it throughout his life.  Luang Pu was a good example of perfect monks who had pariyatti (academic study of Buddhism), patipatti (practice), and pativedha (liberation) completely.  He supported the studying of monks and novices.  He was a Dhamma practitioner and developer monk.  The Most Ven. Phramongkolthepmuni, Luang Pu Wat Paknam, was the Dhamma Commander–In–Chief, the leader of pursuing perfections for the Utmost Dhamma since he would like to find the utmost Dhammakaya Vijja to free all beings from Mara and win Mara absolutely.

1.  Before his ordination
His family and juvenile

The Most Ven. Phramongkolthepmuni had the pre-ordained name “Sod Meekaewnoi.”  He was born on Friday October 10th, 1884 which was on the 6th waning moon day of the 11th lunar month, year of monkey, at Nua Village opposite Song Phi Nong Temple in Song Phi Nong sub-district, Song Phi Nong district, Suphanburi province, Thailand.  He was a son of Mr. Ngern and Mrs. Soodjai Meekaewnoi.  First, he studied with his uncle monk at Song Phi Nong Temple and then he came to study at Bang Pla Temple in Bang Lane district, Nakhon Pathom province.  He was good at Ancient Khmer Language so that he could read Phramalai book which was all written in Ancient Khmer skillfully and quickly. After that he helped his parents to sell rice.

In his childhood, he was very clever, intelligent, resolute, and stable. When he had decided to do something, he did until achieved it. For example, he had helped his family to raise cows and oxen, when his cattle accidently went with other families’ herds, he would search for his cattle back even though it was very late at night. If he had not found his cattle, he would not have come back home.  Furthermore, he was kind to animals, example, when he used his oxen to plough his land, he always observed the sun whether it was the monk’s lunch time.  He believed in an ancient tradition that using the animals too hard was bad and sinful.  He always clocked off on time so that his older sister sometimes misunderstood that he was lazy. Even though she called over him, he did not follow her because he saw that the cattle were very tired. But he brought them to take a bath until they were cool and happy and then he let them to eat grass freely and happily.

Why he pledged that he would be a monk throughout his life

When he was 14 years old, his father passed away because of working too hard.  He inherited to do it until he was 19 years old. One day he was in his empty boat with many thousand Baht from sale. He had to go along a small canal where was the shortcut named “Bang-e-tan Canal.”  This canal was not long but lonely and there were a lot of pirates there.  First, he was standing at the stern which was usually the first position for pirates to attack, so he called a worker to stand there instead of him and he went to hold a rifle and punt the boat at the prow instead.  When the boat was passing the lonely area for a while, he suddenly thought that he hired his workers only 11 – 12 Baht and he was the owner of money and boat, but when there might be a life risk, why he pushed it to his workers first.

When he blamed himself like that, he did not want to take advantage of his workers, so he decided to stand at the stern again and only one.  When the boat passed the canal safely, he determined that “Making money for living is not easy. My father used to do it before. Neither of us have no free time at all.  If someone doesn’t do until rich, he will be a low class and no one respects to him. When he meets his neighbors, he will be ashamed that he is not as rich as others.  My ancestors had done it before, so did my father and now I am doing like this as well.  However, my ancestors passed away and I will do so. Why do I make only money? When I pass away, I cannot bring it anymore. Ordination is better.”  Then, he took an oath that “May I don’t pass away before being ordained. When I am ordained, I don’t disrobe throughout my life.” This was his oath that he had kept very well like he was ordained since 19 years old.  From that time on, he worked harder for accumulating money for his mother’s living, when he became ordained, his mother would not trouble because of money. This showed that he was a very grateful son.
