The Master Nun’s 102nd Birthday Anniversary

The Master Nun Chand Khonnokyoong, the Founder of Dhammakaya Temple, had the beautiful biography that everyone can imitate through one’s life.  On the 196-Rai land (1 Rai = 1,600 Square Meter) at Khlong Sam sub-district in Khlong Luang district, Pathum Thani province, this land is the beginning of Dhammakaya Temple.  Turn back to the past; on the first day the land had been dug to build the temple, the obvious picture was the 60-year thin nun who had shining eyes.  Her eyes expressed that she attained Dhamma deeply, was resolutely and kind.  In that time she was the leader of building Dhammakaya Temple.

The Master Nun was born in the farmer family in Nakorn Chaisri district, Nakorn Pathom province.  She was the 5th child of 9.  Her parents were Mr. Ploy and Mrs. Pan.  The Master Nun was diligent and patient.  She always helped her parents to do housework and rice farming.  In 1935 she was 26 years old; she had decided to leave for Bangkok to meditate at Paknam Bhasi Charoen Temple and met the Master Nun Thongsook Samdaengpan who was the meditation teacher at that temple.  So she learned with the Master Nun Thongsook and later attained Dhammakaya.  Finally, she applied Dhammakaya Vijja to search for her dead father. She found, made apology and helped him out of the hell successfully.

In 1938 the Master Nun Thongsook had brought the Master Nun Chand to pay respect to the Most Ven. Luang Phu Sod, the abbot of Paknam Bhasi Charoen Temple, and Luang Phu accepted the Master Nun Chand to be his disciple in the first time they met and sent the Master Nun Chand to learn the advanced Dhammakaya Vijja at once.

Because of the Master Nun Chand’s diligence and seriousness, she was able to learn Dhammakaya Vijja deeply in the short time until she had been appointed to be the Shift Head.  She also got Luang Phu’s praise that “Second to None”.

When Luang Phu nearly passed away, he had ordered all of his disciples to disseminate Dhammakaya Vijja around the world, so she was willing to cultivate and teach Dhammakaya Vijja to all disciples considerably all the time because she respected to her teacher’s command.

In the end of the year 1963, the Most Ven. Phrarajbhavanavisudh (Luang Phaw Dhammajayo), the abbot of Dhammakaya Temple, in that time just graduated high school from Suankularb Wittayalai School and continued study at Kasetsart University.  He went to study meditation with the Master Nun continuously.  Due to his will and love in Meditation including to his excellent progress in meditation, the Master Nun taught Dhammakaya Vijja she had learned from Luang Phu to Luang Phaw Dhammajayo completely.

After that Luang Phaw Dhammajayo had persuaded his friends, seniors and juniors at his university to meditate with the Master Nun at Dhammaprasit House together.  The more day passed, the more they came.  Then, the house is too small for them.  So in 1970 after Luang Phaw Dhammajayo had ordained, the Master Nun gathered her disciples to build the new meditation center on the land donated by Lady Prayad Patpongsavisutthathibordee.  They named this center as Buddhachak Meditation Center and finally renamed it to be Dhammakaya Temple.

The Master Nun dedicated her strength, willpower and abilities to build the temple very much.  She was both the consultant and mental center for the pioneers of the temple to work, make merit and pursue the perfection together happily.  She also set the rules and regulations of the temple concisely and carefully from the beginning.  She kept the living and order of all kinds of work in the temple as well.  When the temple was expanding to be 2,000-Rai temple to support the Buddhist works in cultivating morality to the youths and interested people, her rules and regulations are still the main guideline to do the Buddhist works up to the present time.
