Why are there many languages in the world?

Questions from the audience:

People living in the foreign country always meet the difficulty from language.  I have heard that some of the Buddhas’ time, the world had not separated to be many countries and he was able to teach people all around the world.  This means that people in the world in that time spoke the same language. Is it correct? Which language did they speak?
The different languages make people misunderstanding easily when they are communicating.  How can we do to change people around the world to speak the same language again?  I think it will make the Dhamma dissemination easier and more quickly.

Answers:

Language is the common problem for people living in the foreign country.  The thing you have heard is correct.  Some of the Buddhas enlightened in the one-language world and some did not.  But the Dhamma content in each Buddhas’ time is the same.
The different languages make people misunderstanding easily when they are talking because Maras have used it as a tool to divide human to be different.  When people are different from one another, they are difficult to be united and then they will not know the real duty and goal of life, etc.  The way to change human to speak the same language is to defeat Mara and remove the background defilements.
