 Persons Worthy of Respect
 
The Lord Buddha is considered to be the wisest among all living beings.

Persons worthy of respect are those who perform good deeds as if their lives depend on it and their goodness should be remembered by us. We should model their behaviors and ways of thinking. Such individuals are those who keep their precepts firmed and have conscience and wisdom.
 
1. The Lord Buddha is considered to be the wisest among all living beings. He has wisdom, purity, and compassion. Such person should be worshipped by Buddhists.
 
2. Monks are individuals who teach themselves before teaching anybody else to ensure that what they preach is right. They are also those who can persuade others to behave well and do good things. Monks should be worshipped by Buddhists.

3. The monarch who uses the Dhamma doctrine to govern his land. He should be respected by his people.
 
4. Fathers, mothers, and older relatives who are well-behaved and other persons whose positions are too high for us to befriend with. They should be respected by the younger generations.
 
5. Teachers who are knowledgeable and display positive behavior. They are those whose positions are too high for us to befriend with. They should be respected by the students.
 
6. Virtuous employers are those who act as a positive role-model, and apply Dhamma in their daily life. They are individuals who subordinate should pay respect.

Besides these individuals, anyone who is considered to be the wise and who are in a higher position are also considered to be worthy of respect.
 
The following items are also considered to be worthy of respect. Although they are not persons, they are attached to individuals who are worthy of respect.
 
1. The Lord’s Buddha’s Dhamma teachings, Buddha statues, or any locations associated with the Lord Buddha, e.g. his birthplace.
 
2. Anything that is related to the monastic community, such as images of the monks.
 
3. The moral teachings of the wise, photos of the parents, teachers, virtuous employers, monarchs who take their role as the wise seriously. They are worthy of respect.
