The Lord Buddha’s Proverbs
“The Criteria for Selecting People”

Mattaññutā Sadā Sādhu
Moderation always bears good fruits

The Buddhist Proverb

Moderation is the ability of a person to know and optimize, not to do anything too much or too less, not to spend too much money (but not sticky), and work as best as he can and pay or invest in anything depending on his real earning.
When he works, he should not know only the moderation but also when and where.  For example, he should know what and when he should sell or buy, what kind of crops he should grow for good price, and where is the suitable place to do this kind of work, etc.  If he knows it well, his work will be successful.

In the past, the old usually gave a compliment to good people that “This boy/girl is good.  He/she doesn’t drink and gamble but is diligent.”  If there was a man wanting to propose marriage, he had to pass the selection criteria which were “Not drink – not gamble – work diligently.”  If he was qualified, the girl’s parents would give the permission, and then they would arrange the wedding ceremony traditionally.  This was the criteria for selection at that era.

It is the truth that those who make their family poor always drink alcohol, gamble, or lazy.  Sometimes they are called as a “parasite” because they leech.

The Lord Buddha warned that you should do anything moderately.  It means that if you are poor, you should save your money and patient; you should not have too expensive meal at a pub or bar.  If you go to pub or bar, you may drink alcohol.  When you drink, you may go to wench or gamble, so you will go home very late.  And you will get up late in the next morning, feel tired and don’t want to work.  When the clock off, you go to pub or bar again.  If you repeat it again and again, you will be addict to the path of ruin at last.

So, the moderation in everything always bears good fruits and your work will not fail because this is the Middle Way.  Remember that
1.    Moderation always bears good fruits and helps you to have the sufficiency economy.
2.    Don’t drink, don’t gamble and work diligently – is the principle of being a good person.  If you can do it, it will support you to be rich.
