Questions from the audience:

I am the initial generation of the perfection pursuers of the temple. My mother was my best friend who taught me to make merit since I was young. I made merit at Paknam Bhasicharoen Temple when I was young. Later, I have followed the Master Nun to make merit at Dhammakaya Temple. My mother and I made merit all–out together and we persuaded others to make merit with us as well.

Unfortunately, I have not gone to the temple for a few years because my mother is very old. So I have to take care of her but I don’t stop making merit. I have asked my friends to bring my money to make merit many times and listened to Dhamma via DMC.

What did I do or make merit with my mother in the previous lifetime that caused me to make merit with her since I was young? What retributions have caused me not to go to the temple for a few years because I have to take care of her?

Answers:

You have made merit with your mother since you were young because in the previous lifetime you were born to be her daughter like this life. In that lifetime you and your mother had made merit together with the temple’s community and you made a wish that you would like to make merit with your mother since you were young in the next life. So, these retributions have caused you to be like this.

You have to take care of your old mother, so you have not gone to the temple for a few years. It is not the effect of your bad retributions. But it is your special merit that you are grateful to your mother and take care of her. Even though you don’t go to the temple for a few years, but you don’t stop making merit. These merits including the grateful merit will effect to you in summary like this: You will reborn in a family which your parents will bring you up very well and you will have the obedient children and grandchildren. Your life will be better and better and flourish because of your gratefulness.
