Fruits of Merit ผลแห่งบุญ

Because of many of Westerners were taught to be generous to others but not in order to expect to reward or to benefit from it. when they look at Buddhism which sound like always giving something and expecting to gain more from this action both in present life and further rewards in future lives. So, we should explain to them how to understand this concept of the fruits of merit. เนื้องจากว่า ชาวตะวันตกถูกสอนให้ทำดีต่อผู้อื่น แต่ไม่ใช้เพื่อคาดหวังผลตอบแทนเมื่อพวกเขามองมายังพุทธศาสนา ที่เมื่อผู้คนทำอะไรแล้วมักจะคาดหวังผลตอบแทนทั้งในชาติปัจจุบัน และภพชาติหน้า ดังนั้นเราจึงควรอธิบายให้เข้าใจอยากถูกต้องเรื่องผลแห่งบุญ

Generous = จิตใจที่ดีงาม

Wealth = ความร่ำรวย

Fruits of Merit ผลแห่งบุญ

We can explain that an act of generosity yields beneficial returns to the giver on three levels. เราสามารถอธิบายผลดีที่จะเกิดขึ้นกับคนแต่ละคน ซึ่งพระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้าทรงแบ่งเป็น 3 ระดับ

Firstly, benefits in this life which appear in the forms of good health, good wealth, good intelligence, good career and good family life. These benefits are obvious to most people. อย่างแรกคือ ประโยชน์ในชาตินี้ เช่น การมีสุขภาพดี การมีฐานะการเงินดี การมีสติปัญญาดี การทำงานราบรื่น มีครอบครัวดี

Intelligence = สติปัญญา

Career = อาชีพการงาน

Secondly, benefits in our future lives. Our lives do not end here. There is life hereafter. The quality of our future lives is conditioned by the quality of our deeds in the present life. ขั้นที่สอง ประโยชน์ในภพชาติหน้า เพราะชีวิตคนเราตายแล้วไม่สูญยังมีชีวิตหลังความตาย เราจะมีชีวิตในอนาคตอย่างไรขึ้นอยู่กับสิ่งที่เราทำไว้ในชาติปัจจุบัน

life hereafter = ชีวิตหลังความตาย

Merits which are the result of good deeds lead to heaven rebirth while not making merits which our results of bad deeds lead to hell. The wheel of cyclic existence continues to turn until one's defilements are eradicated and Nirvana is attained. บุญหรือ ผลที่ได้จากการทำดีจะนำพาไปสู่สวรรค์ บาป คือ ผลที่เกิจากการกระทำชั่ว จะนำไปสู่ทุคติตกนรก วงล้อแห่งสังสารวัฏหมุนเวียนอยู่อย่างนี้ จนกว่าจะหมดกิเลสแล้วเข้าสู่พระนิพพาน

Merit = บุญ

Heaven = สวรรค์

Hell = นรก

Heaven = สวรรค์

It is wise for us to build virtues and accumulate merits as a way to create a positive condition for a future happy rebirth. จะฉลาดกว่าถ้าเราจะสั่งสมความดีเพื่อที่จะนำชีวิตไปเกิดในภพภูมิที่ดีในอนาคต

Accumulate = สะสม

The third level is the ultimate benefit which is attaining to Nirvana. This is the ultimate goal of all Buddhists. ประโยชน์อย่างยิ่งคือการเข้าสู่พระนิพพานนี่เป็นประโยชน์สูงสุดของชาวพุทธทุกคน

Howeverm, the second and third benefits are not commonly understood. It would be advantageous for people to know about them. This will help them gain more understanding on how merit works. อย่างไรก็ตาม เป้าหมายขั้นที่ 2 และ 3 นั้น ไม่ได้อยู่ในความเข้าใจทั่วไป มันเป็นสิ่งที่จะได้เปรียบสำหรับผู้ที่มีความรู้เรื่องเหล่านี้ สิ่งนี้จะช่วยพวกเขาให้เข้าใจมากขึ้นว่าบุญให้ผลอย่างไร

Advantage = ได้เปรียบ

As for Buddhist monks, They may have no money to give to charities, but they give their lives to Buddhism, training themselves and teaching morality to others. Their contributions to society are very significant in deed. พระก็ทำความดีเหมือนกัน แม้ว่าท่านจะไม่ได้ให้ด้วยเงินทอง แต่ท่านให้ทั้งชีวิตกับพระพุทธศาสนากับการฝึกตัวเองและสอนผู้อื่น ให้คิด ให้ธรรมะ ท่านทำให้สังคมเห็นความสำคัญของการกระทำ

Contribution = การสนับสนุน, ให้ความช่วยเหลือ

What monks go after is not material wealth but something higher, namely, the second and third benefits mentioned above. พระสงฆ์ไม่ได้หวังประโยชน์ทางความร่ำรวยแต่หวังสูงขึ้นไปอีกในข้อ 2 และ 3 คือ บุญจะนำเราไปสู่สิ่งที่ดีขึ้น ทำให้กิเลสในตัวเราลดลง และเข้าสู่พระนิพพานในที่สุด

Material = วัตถุ, สิ่งของ

For laypeople, it depends on what they want for their lives and how well they understand the significance of life hereafter. But they should not miss the opportunity to create benefits for the "future" as well. สำหรับคนทั้วไป ก็ขึ้นกับว่าเขาให้ความสำคัญกับเป้าหมายระดับไหน แต่พวกเขาก็ไม่ควรจะพลาดที่จะได้สร้างบุญในภายภาคหน้าเช่นเดียวกัน

Merit is the vehicle that takes us to a better future. It is merit that helps reducing our defilements, paving the way for us to attain Nirvana, the ultimate state of happiness. บุญนำพาให้พวกเรามีอนาคตที่ดีบุญช่วยลดกิเลสให้จางลง และปูทางไปสู่พระนิพพาน ซึ่งคือที่สุดแห่งความสุข

Defilement = กิเลส
