Field of Merit เนื้อนาบุญ

This is a special knowledge for Buddhists. Why does Buddhism give importance to the "Field of Merit"? The Lord Buddha has found the truth that making merit to one who possesses a higher virtue yields a higher degree of merit. "เนื้อนาบุญ" หรือ "Field of Merit" เป็นความรู้พิเศษสำหรับชาวพุทธ ทำไมพุทธศาสนาจึงให้ความสำคัญกับเรื่องนี้ พระสัมาสัมพุทธเจ้าท่านได้พบความจริงที่ว่าการทำบุญกับบุคคลที่มีคุณธรรมความดีมากก็จะได้รับผลบุญมากตามไปด้วย

People of virtue are considered a "field of merit", a fertile "field" in a moral sense. ผู้คนพิจจรณาคำว่า "เนื้อนาบุญ" เป็น ผลบุญที่จะเกิดขึ้นในนาบุญในความหมายด้านศีลธรรม

We can compare this to farming, if you farm on an arid field, the yield of your crop will be low. เราสามารถเปรียบได้ดังเช่น การปลูกข้าว หากไปปลูกในที่แห้งแล้งกันดาร ผลผลิตก็จะต่ำ

Yield = ผลผลิต

But if you farm on a fertile field the yield of your crop will be bountiful. So, it is wise to direct your act of giving toward people who are virtuous. That's why Buddhists always make merits to monks. หากปลูกในนาที่น้ำท่าอุดมสมบูร์ ผลผลิตามก็จะได้มาก นี้เป็นผลทางตรงของการให้ไปยังผู้รับที่มีคุณธรรมสูง นี้เป็นเหตุผลว่าทำไมชาวพุทธจึงมักทำบุญกับพระภิกษุ

Fertile = อุดมสมบูรณ์

Virtuous = บริสุทธิ์, ความดีงาม

This is by no means implied that we should neglect the poor. แต่นี้ไม่ใช้ละเลยคนที่ลำบาก ไม่ช่วยเหลือคนที่ลำบาก

Neglect = ละเลย

Field of Merit เนื้อนาบุญ

A kind-hearted person should help everyone. Acts of giving should not be limited only to temple. If one understands how merit works, he will value every meritorious opportunity that comes his way. หากเป็นคนมีน้ำใจกับทุกๆ คน ไม่ได้ให้เฉพาะกับวัดเท่านั้น คนที่เข้าใจความจริงย่อมรักการทำบุญมากเขาจะเห็นคุณค่าของโอกาสในการทำความดีที่มีเข้ามา

A kind-hearted person should help everyone. ผู้ที่ใจดีจะช่วยเหลือทุกคน

For example; If one doctor cures a sick thief, when this thief become healthy he will continue to steal again. ถ้าเกิดว่าหมอท่านหนึ่งรักษาโจรให้แข็งแรงเขาก็จะขโมยต่อไป

Thief = โจร

Steal = ขโมย

If I heal good persons, when these persons get better they will continue to do good deed for the rest of their life. แต่หากช่วยให้คนดีแข็งแรงคนดีก็จะทำความดีต่อไปจนตลอดชีวิต

Heal = รักษา, เยียวยา

Deed = การกระทำ

It is clear that the merit earned from giving to a man of good virtue is far more beneficial than giving to one who is not. Howeverm we should not forget the poor people. บุญที่เราได้ทำกับผู้มีคุณธรรมความดีย่อมได้ผลที่มากว่าการทำบุญกับผู้ที่ไม่บริสุทธิ์

Beneficial = เป็นประโยชน์

This is why the Lord Buddha explained performing an act of merit with a proper "field of merit" is beneficial. นี้เป็นการอธิบายว่าทำไมการทำบุญกับผู้ที่เป็น เนื้อนาบุญ" จึงได้ผลที่มากกว่า
